New Chapter President COL Faith Junghahn Delivers her First President's Message
Our Chapter recently gathered for our social at the ZincHouse, and it was a pleasure reconnecting with so many of you. I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with members and hearing about the exciting vacations planned for the summer. The evening was marked by great conversation, new friendships, and meaningful discussions about how we continue advocating for Veterans within our communities.
We also have several important events ahead. On April 25th, our Chapter will participate in the 30th Annual Park Day Cleanup. Our nearest designated site is the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro. Supporting the American Battlefield Trust through Park Day is a visible way to preserve our nation’s history and honor the service of those who are serving. Additional opportunities will follow as North Carolina prepares for NC250, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Looking further ahead, Veterans’ Legislative Day will take place on June 2. This is our opportunity to engage directly with the General Assembly and advocate for policies that help North Carolina continue its progress toward becoming the most veteran friendly state in the nation.
I would also like to recognize Henry Scheller for earning MOAA's 5 Star Harris Communication Award for his outstanding administration of our Chapter website. Henry’s monthly updates ensure our members remain informed about upcoming events and key advocacy initiatives.
A considerable event impacting Veterans statewide is the Wilmington Veterans Experience Action Center, scheduled for May 8–12 at the Wilmington National Guard Armory. VA benefits representatives will be available to assist Veterans with filing new claims and updating existing ones. Please help share this information with anyone who may benefit from these services.
Finally, our Chapter is honored to host the Annual Scholarship Dinner on May 12 at 1730, at the NC State University Club, 4200 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh. This year, we will proudly award two JROTC cadets with $1,500 scholarships in recognition of their leadership and commitment.
Thank you for your continued engagement and support. Together, we strengthen our Chapter, honor our military community, and uphold MOAA’s enduring mission: Never Stop Serving.
